When children experience loss, having a safe place to grieve can make all the difference.
That purpose is at the heart of Camp Chameleon, a grief camp for children ages 5–12 that provides a compassionate, supportive environment where healing begins through connection, understanding, and community.
Hosted through a partnership betweenThe Personal Wellness Center (now affiliated with Maryland Wellness), and Coastal Hospice, Camp Chameleon brings together children from across Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore for a week designed to help them navigate grief in healthy, meaningful ways. Through guided activities, creative expression, outdoor play, and peer support, campers are reminded that they are not alone on their journey.
This year, Camp Chameleon welcomed 32 children from all four Lower Eastern Shore counties we serve, with nearly perfect attendance throughout the week. From moments of reflection to laughter and new friendships, the camp created opportunities for children to build resilience, honor loved ones, and experience the comfort of being surrounded by peers and caring adults who understand the impact of loss.
Behind every meaningful moment was an incredible team of staff, volunteers, and community partners committed to making Camp Chameleon a place where children could feel safe, supported, and encouraged. This year, 25 dedicated volunteers generously shared their time, compassion, and energy throughout the week, helping create an experience that will have a lasting impact on the children and families we serve.
