Building Skills and Connections Through Maryland Wellness PRP Groups

Thursday, October 29, 2026

Connecting with others, practicing a new skill, or becoming more involved in your community can be meaningful steps toward personal goals. Maryland Wellness’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) groups bring these opportunities together, giving participants a supportive setting to learn, share experiences, and build on their strengths.

PRP helps individuals develop practical skills for everyday life. Group participation adds opportunities to practice those skills with others, exchange ideas, and explore interests that support greater independence and well-being.

How Group Participation Can Help

Everyone brings different experiences and goals to a group. Participating offers several ways to learn and grow:

  • Build social connections. Meeting with others creates opportunities to start conversations, practice listening, and develop relationships. Sharing experiences can also help participants feel less alone and learn from different perspectives.
  • Strengthen everyday skills. Depending on the group’s focus, activities may support communication, coping strategies, problem-solving, or daily routines. Practicing together gives participants a chance to ask questions and consider how to use what they learn outside the group.
  • Become more engaged in the community. Learning about resources and participating in activities can help individuals explore their surroundings, discover interests, and feel more comfortable getting involved.
  • Work toward personal goals. A group can offer encouragement to try something unfamiliar, recognize progress, and identify a next step. Goals may look different for each participant, and even small steps can be meaningful.
