Camp Chameleon 2026 Brings Hope and Healing to Children Across Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore

Thursday, July 9, 2026

When children experience loss, having a safe place to grieve can make all the difference.

That purpose is at the heart of Camp Chameleon, a grief camp for children ages 5–12 that provides a compassionate, supportive environment where healing begins through connection, understanding, and community.

Hosted through a partnership betweenThe Personal Wellness Center (now affiliated with Maryland Wellness), and Coastal Hospice, Camp Chameleon brings together children from across Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore for a week designed to help them navigate grief in healthy, meaningful ways. Through guided activities, creative expression, outdoor play, and peer support, campers are reminded that they are not alone on their journey.

This year, Camp Chameleon welcomed 32 children from all four Lower Eastern Shore counties we serve, with nearly perfect attendance throughout the week. From moments of reflection to laughter and new friendships, the camp created opportunities for children to build resilience, honor loved ones, and experience the comfort of being surrounded by peers and caring adults who understand the impact of loss.

Behind every meaningful moment was an incredible team of staff, volunteers, and community partners committed to making Camp Chameleon a place where children could feel safe, supported, and encouraged. This year, 25 dedicated volunteers generously shared their time, compassion, and energy throughout the week, helping create an experience that will have a lasting impact on the children and families we serve.

We are also deeply grateful to the local businesses, organizations, and individuals whose generosity helped make Camp Chameleon 2026 possible:

  • Coastal Hospice
  • Mad Hatter Cafe
  • Deli at Pecan Square
  • Market Street Inn
  • Heather Kiser’s Petting Zoo
  • Retro Sno on the Go (Raquel McNeil)
  • Pets on Wheels
  • Coco’s Fun House
  • Pepsi, for donating bottled water
  • Taylor Dean, for providing weight equipment
  • Bob Ayotte, for providing transportation

Whether through donated meals, activities, supplies, equipment, transportation, or volunteer service, every contribution helped create an environment where children could focus on healing, building confidence, and creating lasting memories.

Camp Chameleon is a reflection of what is possible when healthcare organizations, community partners, volunteers, and local businesses come together with a shared commitment to supporting children and families. It is through these partnerships that we can continue expanding access to compassionate, community-based care for those who need it most.

At Maryland Wellness, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to heal with dignity, hope, and support. We are honored to stand alongside our partners, volunteers, and families in creating spaces where children can process grief, build resilience, and move forward knowing they are surrounded by a community that cares.

We invite you to watch our Camp Chameleon 2026 recap video and experience the moments of courage, connection, and joy that made this year’s camp so meaningful. Together, we are helping children find hope, strengthen resilience, and discover that healing is always possible when a community comes together.

“When I first started, I was afraid to talk but once they started telling me about this program, I started to open up more. They taught me that I am important; it’s about me today. They have taught me to forget about the past and focus on my goals – my GED,  nursing, helping the homeless, volunteering, etc. This is the most amazing, awesome program in Baltimore, and that’s from my heart. The staff is wonderful, amazing, beautiful, unique and have hearts of gold.”
